Words. Yes. He says a lot of them. . . .

For a long time I didn't think Jonathan would ever talk.

He didn't seem interested in talking.

Then he started to talk. And talk. And talk. And squeal and screech.
And mouth back.

Mouthing off is a "special talent" of my little Jonathan.

It is during those moments when he "talks back" that I wonder why I ever
encouraged him to use his "words."

Way back when, if he pointed and grunted, instead of speaking, I said, "Use your words."

And eventually he did.

Then he added more words to those words.

He mastered
the word "no" and "I don't wanna" and "I not tired" and "I want toys"
and "naked butt!"
(Speaking of 'naked butt' — any idea how to convince a 3-year old he
should be wearing pants, even at home? I mean, his baby butt is cute and all, but seriously…he needs to put some clothes on!)

The other night Jonathan was petting our fat cat
(a.k.a. The Beast, a.k.a. Stinky Cat or Farting Cat) with all her long hair and announced, "It
need a hair cut!"

"You should talk," Hubby shot back with a grin (even though it actually
hasn't been long since Jonathan's had a hair cut).

"I DO talk," Jonathan informed him very seriously.

And boy does he.

We took him to see " How To Train a Dragon" this past weekend. During the movie he declared rather loudly, "I don't like his daddy," about Hiccup's father, adding, "He mean."

While at the counter buying popcorn, before the movie, Jonathan slipped under the counter and ran to a girl who looked to be about 16. Hubby went in to retrieve him and that's when my kid hugged the girl around the waist — a girl we have never met before. She looked embarrassed, but smiled.

When we sat down in the theater Hubby shook his head and said, "I can't believe you did that, kid," and laughed a little. "You're such a flirt."

Jonathan shrugged and sighed a little and said, "I'm just loveable."

Gotta love 'em — those words of his.

  1. Jonathan must be very social! Lily and Emmy barely hug people they know, much less a stranger! He is such a heart stealer!
I review a “naked butt” book on my blog today…Jonathan just might like it! ;) (Plus, you’ll get to see what I look like…I got brave and made a vlog!)

  2. “Naked butt” has made it to Sprite’s classroom as well. She now uses that phrase whenever the air hits her behind. The little accompanying wiggle was cute at first.
    You’re linked!

  3. Oh, precious memories. Makes my think of our middle child. I was getting a bit worried, he was 14 mos old, and didn’t say too much. I guess he never needed to.
But, one morning, as I carried him downstairs, he looked at me and gave me this full sentence. “Time to brush my teeth now.”
    Just like that.
    Hilarious.

  4. That’s too funny! He’s quite the (cute) character, isn’t he? ;) There are times when hubby and I reminisce about the ‘good old days’ when Princess Nagger was in the ‘blob stage’…as in when she didn’t know how to talk yet. ;) Great Spin! :)

  5. If you ever find out how to keep pants on a three year old, PLEASE let me know. My son greeted the postman this afternoon naked from the waist down.

  6. That is too cute! He definitely seems to have a way with words. I can just imagine that scene at the movie theater. Seriously, I love the things that come out of kids’ mouths…they have such a unique perspective on the world.
Thanks for stopping by earlier. :)

  7. Oh, he IS lovable!!
The Young One was a late talker – he was nearly 5 before he started. Today, ten years later, I think I’d kill for a moment of silence. So be prepared – he won’t stop when he’s a teenager, either…

  8. He is one smart cookie! I love it. Occasionally my boy yammers at me so much I swear it makes my head spin, but their little voices and their unique perspective always kill me. Jonathan is such a ladies man, much better taste than my Dora infatuated boy. ;)
