Hubby the control freak and other Random Tuesday Thoughts

On the way to my parents a couple of Sundays ago I tried to put my window up. It was locked. As usual.
Hubby
has the lock on the windows in place to keep Jonathan from playing with
the button now that he can reach the button. Actually, Hubby had the
window locks on before Jonathan could reach the button.
I’ve decided Hubby may be a control freak.

So I told him so.

“You’re a control freak,” I said. Just like that.

I asked him why I can never have control of my own window.

“What’s the big deal? It’s a window. I feel so confined when I can’t roll my own window up or down.”

“Fine! Fine! Here! You can have control!” he said and took the lock off.

“Thank
you,”
I said and rolled the window up and then down, up and then down,
up and then down again.

I felt free. He probably felt all shaky because he wasn't in control. This week he had the window locks on again.

We have a new employee at our office. I wonder if she'll be like the one we hired not so long ago who came to work, left for lunch and never came back. Apparently she decided the job was beneath her. Or she realized she was simply too stupid to do it. Either way, she burned her bridges in less than four hours. Must have been some kind of record.

I spent Saturday with a friend and her son. Her son, Isaiah is about six months younger than Jonathan, but looks the same age based on height. In other words, my kid is really short, in case I haven't mentioned this before (like 5,000 times before). I don't think either child was real happy with their moms because we kept both of the boys confined to their individual strollers most of the day while we walked around a local arts festival. There were a couple thousand people there and neither of us moms wanted to take a chance on losing our little ones in the crowd. With Jonathan being older I always worry that he will be the instigator and lead Isaiah into rebellious behavior. I could just imagine us losing sight of them, only to find them again at the top of the Ferris wheel.

A train similar in appearance to Thomas the Train caught Jonathan's attention toward the end of our visit. He and Isaiah ended up taking their first amusement park ride together. Both of them looked less than thrilled — instead they looked 1) a little confused and 2) very tired. I snapped a photo of Jonathan at one point and with his eyes I was sure he was telling me: "Mom, knock it off. I can't be cool and a big boy with my mommy snapping photos of me." There is a girl in the shot glaring at me too. I have no idea who she is, but I don't like the tone of her expression. You? It's kind of like. .  "What's your problem woman?" Or…maybe she thinks I'm just some weirdo taking pictures of kids on rides.

I'm almost over the swine flue paranoia, or should I say I was. Then Brother put up some links to blog posts about the Swine Flu and I started panicking again. The posts were supposed to be jokes, but have I mentioned you can't joke with a hypochondriac? We don't have a sense of humor when it comes to a deadly disease we might have already contracted.

I had another tidbit I wanted to share today but when I started to laugh during the incident Hubby shot this epitaph at me: "If I read this on your blog I will divorce you." To be honest I did ponder for quite awhile if it would be worth detailing the story on my blog but in the end I decided I'd like us to make it to our seventh anniversary in July. Instead, check out some other random posts over at The Un Mom.

  1. Oh, now I want to know what you were going to say that could lead in divorce. Actually, scratch that… your marriage is way more important than you blog.
You're right, Jonathan is totally giving you the "knock it off Mom!" look. He was trying to get that girl's phone number and you threw him off his game.

  2. I just keep pressing the down button making it click click click click click until he realises and unlocks the window:) we'll call it passive agressive window control.

  3. That is such a cute picture!
I have been tempted to write stories about husband, too…but he's so good and reads my blog every day. Why, why did I tell him I started a blog?
The window thing is just too funny! We have to lock our windows, too, or Lily will open hers when it's 30 degrees outside. And then throw a temper tantrum when we won't let her keep it open. It never bothered me before…but now it will! Rats.

  4. Oh, the Swine Flu…that dumb thing still has me worried. I have to fly this month and I actually mentioned not flying just because of the Swine Flu. Nurse Boy just rolled his eyes.
    LOVE the window thing…

  5. I love this post! As a control freak who is married to a bigger control freak I can empathize from all sides.
But the burning question is what in the heckity-heck your husband did that was banished from the blog. Beg him to reconsider for us…

  6. I have to keep the child locks on in my soove because the dog rolls the window down. omg, she might be a control freak! ;)
Jonathan's expression is priceless. He's one adorable little munchkin.

  7. Okay, you can't throw a tidbit like that out there and expect the blogosphere to just take it lying down. ;) Divorce worthy huh? I'm so intrigued. I love the look on your son's face on the train ride, he's two going on seventeen.

  8. *giggle* I love the window story! (We've had to lock them for the same reason…)
I consider myself lucky; my husband has no interest in my blog. None, what so ever!! So threats like that, pretty non existant.

  9. I would have absolutely rolled the window up and down after the lock was disengaged…as a matter of fact, I have done that! LOL!! :) Love the picture of Jonathan – he is definitely giving you the 'knock it off, Mom!' glare! ;)
